Another demonstration of the Ondes framboise – a digital emulator of the Ondes Martenot, based on a Raspberry Pi 3A+ running Pure Data.

The ‘Feuillets Inédits’ were composed by Olivier Messiaen for Ondes Martenot. Two of the movements feature passages of birdsong notated by Messiaen. Both the keyboard and ribbon are used along with several of the Ondes’ different voices and all four of the Diffuseurs. The piece was completed and edited by Yvonne Loriod-Messiaen.
Movements:
1. 0:08
2. 1:50
3. 4:01
4. 7:32

I’m certainly not an Ondist (or even a keyboard player!) so the performance leaves something be desired. Indeed some of the passages are quite beyond my ability, so I used these to demonstrate the MIDI playback capability of the Ondes framboise. The piano accompaniment is from a MIDI file played on a Casio Privia PX-350M.

The intention of this video is to demonstrate the sound of the instrument and hopefully inspire other makers to try building an Ondes framboise for themselves. Details of the hardware and construction are being published on Thingiverse (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4742145) and the code on GitHub (https://github.com/clarionut/ondes_framboise).
